Faculty of Education

BSc(IM) 2025

Marco Ng (BSc(IM) 2025) graduated from the Faculty of Education with a Bachelor of Science in Information Management. This achievement means a lot to Marco, as he has been on a unique and challenging journey since he was little.

Diagnosed with severe hearing loss at the age of two, Marco has always had to go the extra mile for things as simple as listening to others. Growing up, with the help of hearing aids and sign language interpretation services, he was able to communicate with those around him. However, the COVID-19 years were especially challenging, as wearing masks made it impossible for him to read lips.

Yet, Marco’s disability has also brought unexpected opportunities. He was cast by director Adam Wong in a leading role in the film “The Way We Talk,” which explores the identity of the deaf community. His performance earned him a nomination for Best New Performer at the Hong Kong Film Awards.

After graduation, Marco is determined to pursue his dream of becoming the first deaf lawyer in HK. Marco believes that his disability is never a hurdle, but rather a source of strength.

Most valuable lesson from uni?

Becoming more independent and focusing on myself is really important to me. There are so many distractions in life, but by concentrating on myself, I can have a clearer mind and work towards becoming the person I want to be. This has helped me to focus more on my family, relationships, and personal growth.

Quote that helped you persevere through challenges?

“No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path.” - Buddha

Tell us of an important value in your life

I believe that being optimistic is very important. By focusing on myself, I am able to truly relax and maintain a clear mind, which helps me make meaningful decisions. By practicing these habits, I can solve problems in life and, hopefully, create good karma for myself and those around me.
