Updates on the arrangements of the 203rd Congregation

October 27, 2020

Dear Graduands of the Class of 2020,

As you will probably be aware, the University has decided to hold the 203rd Congregation online this year due to the ongoing uncertainties caused by the COVID-19 outbreak in Hong Kong.

We are pleased to invite you to join the Congregation ceremony which will be broadcast online on December 3, 2020 at 11am (HKT) through the website https://class-of-2020.hku.hk/. At the ceremony, the Deans of Faculties will read out the name of degrees for which candidates are presented, and request the Presiding Officer, i.e. the President and Vice-Chancellor, to admit all candidates to the degrees to which they are eligible.

We hope you understand that these arrangements will allow the University to continue our time-honoured tradition of celebrating your hard work in reaching this significant milestone, while also affirming our commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of the University community.

On other arrangements related to the Congregation, we would like to bring your attention to the following details:

Collection of Certificates

Please note that Degree Certificates / Diplomas will be available for collection in person at the Academic Services Office on HKU campus, or they can be posted by mail to the graduate after the Congregation is held.

To facilitate the logistical arrangements for the distribution or mail posting of Degree Certificates / Diplomas to graduates in due course, graduands will be notified in early November of an online system in which they are requested to indicate their chosen method for receiving their Degree Certificate / Diploma, i.e. collection in person, or by mail posting.

Rental of Academic Dresses

In light of the COVID-19 outbreak and with a view to providing more flexibility to graduands in the collection and return of the academic dresses, graduands can rent the academic dresses from a vendor at its outlets. Details will be announced in early November.

Alumni Privileges

Check out the exclusive offers for new HKU graduates - including graduation gifts, an interactive digital celebration kit, alumni privileges and more - available at https://www.newgrads.alumni.hku.hk from the Development & Alumni Affairs Office (DAAO).

Graduate Employment Survey and Career Support

All graduands are invited to take part in Graduate Employment Survey 2020 which will be launched in late October this year by CEDARS-Careers and Placement to collect employment related information of graduates. Those who have completed the survey before November 30, 2020 will get a free HKU Tote Bag. Please visit https://www.cedars.hku.hk/ges/newgrad for details.

Graduands are also encouraged to make use of the "GraduAction" one-stop hub for free career support services and resources.

Congregation Website

Please bookmark the Congregation website https://www4.hku.hk/congreg and visit it regularly for essential information on the arrangements of the Congregation as well as the latest updates.

Remember that Congregation-themed decorations - including photo backdrops, buntings, outdoor installations and more - will be available from mid-November onwards on campus to enhance the festive atmosphere of the Congregation season. Graduands are welcome to come back to take photos with their families and friends.

We understand the Faculties may also organise various activities and events - which may be virtual or in-person celebrations when circumstances allow - to celebrate your accomplishments. Please stay tuned for updates.
