205th Congregation - updates on dates

August 13, 2021

Dear Graduands of the Class of 2021, Colleagues and Students,

The University's Congregation is one of the most important events in the HKU calendar. It is the annual grand ceremony held by the University to officially confer degrees on our students who are eligible for graduation.

The forthcoming 205th Congregation for the conferment of degrees on the Class of 2021 will be organised by ten Faculties from November 1 to December 7 this year, and most of the Congregation sessions will take place in the Grand Hall of the University.

In light of the ongoing COVID-19 situation and in accordance with recommendations on social distancing and group gatherings, the University has decided to hold Congregation on a smaller scale this year, i.e., only the graduands will be invited to attend their respective Faculty sessions. All Congregation sessions will be broadcast live online so that family and friends can watch the ceremony proceedings.

Graduands will receive notification from their respective Faculties confirming their graduation and details for registration for admission tickets. For the schedules of the 205th Congregation, please visit https://www4.hku.hk/congreg/faculty. More details of the arrangements will be provided by the Faculties once available and the webpage will be updated accordingly.

Kindly note that the University will keep monitoring the situation and make appropriate adjustments to the ceremony arrangements whenever required. If the COVID situation worsens and in-person participation of graduands becomes impossible, a virtual ceremony in an online format will be organised by the Faculties to confer the degrees. The announcement of such a contingency plan will be made by October this year to facilitate the preparations for the Congregation.
