Class of 2019
The rhythm of the team chanting ‘Ga lek’ (‘add power’ in Cantonese) reverberates through me every time I look back into the pages of my life at HKU. Being in the HKU Dragon Boat team was a lifetime experience that opened the gateway to immerse myself into the local culture and created invaluable friendships with a diverse group of people from around the globe. In addition, I would like to convey my sincerest gratitude to Professor SC Tan for nurturing and fostering in me an entrepreneurial mindset in Electrical Engineering research and development that led me into an HKU spin-off startup collaboration with Hong Kong Science Park. HKU taught me to work hard, play harder!
Nawaj Mohammed Sharif (BEng(EE))
Sometimes I failed at HKU. But during the term, I learned how to deal with failure and keep going past it. I am deeply grateful to my parents and fiancé for trusting and supporting me no matter what.
Sangmin Kim (MJ)
If you strike me down, I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.’ This quote has stuck with me for as long as I can remember and it has kept me going throughout my life. I have come across many doubters and non-supporters during my journey, but my drive and determination have pushed me to where I am today. I have to thank The University of Hong Kong for all the doors it opened up for me as my goals would not have been reached without the University’s international opportunities, professors, financial aids and great curriculum. Thank you, HKU, for I am truly and eternally grateful.
Iram Sophia Khan (BBA)
Moot court is the best platform to put our legal knowledge into practice and I am grateful for the abundant opportunities HKU offered to sharpen my legal skills. What we learnt with pleasure we will never forget. Thank you HKU. It’s been an amazing ride.
Ho Ching Him (JD)
I am extremely honoured to have graduated from HKU with strengthened soft and hard skills, unforgettable memories and lifelong connections. From the friends I met in France on exchange to my case competition coach, the past four years at Hong Kong have been remarkable, shaping me to become the woman I aspired to be.
Pinto Rasika Tasdyata (BBA (IBGM))
Studying for the Master of Buddhist Studies programme was a life-changing decision and it enlightened me with how to integrate Buddhist values and knowledge into real life. I am very grateful for my teachers and course-mates who supported and helped me along this journey.
Candace Lui (MBuddhStud)
The past six years were fruitful and rewarding, with fond memories both in the dental hospital and on the tennis courts where I spent a lot of my time. Playing sports helped to relieve the stress I was feeling and shaped me into a more resilient person. I hope I can maintain the same work-life balance after graduation.
Heidi Wong (BDS)
As a student who has multiple interests, I found the best thing about HKU is the flexibility to take more than one major, which completely changed my life.
Caroline Cynthia (BSc)
HKU completely turned my life around. I saw myself transform from being extremely socially anxious to being outgoing and approachable. I would like to thank my friends who were there for me and helped me get out of my comfort zone.
Jamal Ahmed Rahim (BEng(CompSc))
